Lagos Task Force Para-Military officer stabbed by hoodlums at Oshodi

A paramilitary officer attached to the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Task Force) MR. Uzan Rildwan was stabbed on his head and had 2 of his fingers cut off by commercial drivers and market touts under Oshodi bridge this morning.

The fracas was as a result of men of the Task Force arresting commercial buses obstructing traffic and causing traffic gridlocks at Oshodi under bridge this morning.

Commercial bus drivers and market touts under the Oshodi bridge came out and attacked both Police and Paramilitary officers with broken bottles, cutlasses, wood and other dangerous weapons in order to secure the release of the arrested 6 commercial buses.

Mr. Uzan Rildwan who was injured during the fracas was immediately rushed to nearby hospital for treatment before he was transferred to General Hospital Ikeja for further diagnoses on his head.

Meanwhile, with the introduction of Mobile Court , it is expected that motorists would comport themselves and complied with the Lagos State Traffic Laws of 2012.

The mobile court which will be moving from different locations across the state with Magistrates, Lawyers, Black Maria, Cashier, Police and Towing vehicles is set to deal with growing cases of traffic and environmental abuses in the state.

Offences by commercial motorcycles riding against traffic, refusal to obey traffic  signs, commercial bus drivers (Danfo) who operate on motion with their doors open among others will be tried by the mobile court.

It is expected that bus conductors should always make sure that doors of their commercial bus is closed whenever their vehicle is on motion and most only stopped at designated bus-stop during when dropping and picking passengers, motorcycle riders should not ride against traffic or ride their motorcycles on restricted routes across the state.

The step taken by the government would bring sanity to the system and does not exclude private vehicle owners who constantly disobeyed traffic Laws.

However, during a week operation by the Lagos State Task Force across the state , 24 commercial and private vehicles who contravened traffic laws were  arrested and made to pay fines, 43 were screened out of the 390 miscreants arrested while remaining 347 were charged to courts and 297 motorcycles were impounded by Task Force.

Angry virgins protests topless in support of the Mayor who introduced the controversial 'Virginity Bursary' in SA

Angry maidens took to the streets of Ladysmith, KZN, South Africa on Friday, February 5, 2016, in support of the controversial virginity bursary. They have vowed to continue supporting the Uthukela mayor, Dudu Mazibukomayor who introduced the bursary scheme.

"If the government can give young, unemployed mothers child support grants, why shouldn’t the mayor help virgins for preserving their culture?" they asked.

Many groups have criticised the mayor. Higher education and social development departments have called on the mayor to cancel the bursary scheme for maidens. The Gender for Equality Commission said the awards encourage inequalities and must be stopped immediately.

People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa) has slammed an alleged bursary programme that funds studies for young women, but only if they can prove they’re virgins.

The Maidens Bursary was created by the KwaZulu-Natal municipality to fund higher education for young women. It’s been reported that 16 young South African women are the beneficiaries of the scholarship, which funds their higher education. It’s believed the girls are regularly examined, allegedly to ascertain if they’re still virgins.

Powa’s Palesa Mpapa said, "The fact that we are align it to the right to education is not making sense. It’s also discriminating in that within the girls being lured into bursaries on the basis of virginity and what are we saying about boys."

Mpapa added that the practice of virginity testing is unconstitutional.

"If anyone wants to keep their virginity, it’s their right to do it in their individual capacity. It’s a personal issue, which is not supposed to be done in public and it’s also not good that the agencies are using it in order for the girls to get bursaries."

The UThukela District Municipality says it created the so called “virgin bursaries” to deter young women from getting involved with older men. Mayor Dudu Mazibuko says the program is meant to encourage young girls to abstain from sex and focus of education.

"There was a study by the health department that "found that" young girls are more vulnerable than boys. There is no pressure at all, in fact this is an incentive because we are talking girls that have taken the decision to keep their virginity. Young girls are more vulnerable, they are the ones that fall in love with sugar daddies, get diseases and fall pregnant and then their lives are messed up."

Dudu Zwane, 50 a virginity tester and leader of Izimbali zoThukela where virgins are registered, said the maidens and parents are calling on groups to leave the mayor alone.

She said they were disturbed that government was criticising the awards while it was spending billions on child support grants. She said they expected government to support the awards because it was part of the campaign to fight HIV/Aids.

"We encourage abstinence but there are people telling our kids they have rights to sleep with men," said Dudu.

The mayor said she was not part of the march and told the SunTeam to speak to the maidens’ matrons.

A 32-year-old virgin and recipient of the award, Bongiwe Sithole said she came from the Free State University to march. She said if it wasn’t for the awards, she would still be at home because her dad didn’t have money to send her to university.

Kris Jenner featured in the March 2016 issue of Harper's Bazaar (Photos)

The 60 year old mother of six opened up on a number of issues, including her regrets divorcing first husband, dealing with her second husband turning into a woman, dealing with haters and finding real time to be with her family when everything they do is on TV. Read after the cut...

Excerpts from her interview.
On regrets divorcing her first husband, late Robert Kardashian
"I had a wonderful, beautiful life with Robert. He was just an amazing man," she explains, adding that as she went through the Bruce/Caitlyn thing, she wished she could call him, to have a solid shoulder to lean, or maybe, cry on. "I always wish I could call Robert right now. That's an everyday thing."
Does she ever have any privacy, any real time when her entire life is a reality show. And what does it feel like to always be a target/critised harshly?
"Here's the thing, We have literally millions and millions of fans. I mean, even Kendall and Kylie have 50 million followers on Instagram—apiece. That's a hundred million people you have somehow touched emotionally, enough to follow you on a social-media platform. And I think with that also comes, you know, haters. But in comparison, like I tell my family, they're such a small percentage. We wouldn't be around for 12 seasons as a television show if there was that much negativity."
On what it's like when you discover your ex-husband is a woman?
"I think at some point, although it was difficult and, uh, a challenge … I just have to let it go. And try to be tolerant. How? "Prayer. God. You know, just trying to understand. It takes time. But time is a wonderful healer. And we have two children together. It's important for my kids to see our family strong and united."
On her perception of herself, as a woman - did she doubt herself, her own femininity?
"No, I never. Thank God, I never doubted myself. I never really doubted my femininity. I just doubted the relationship. You know, 'What were those 20-plus years all about?' And I felt like, at some point anybody would feel like, 'Wow, why was I put through this? For 20 years I could have been, you know, doing something else.' But I really do believe everything happens for a reason."

Rotimi Amaechi replies Nyesom Wike over $150m allegation

Read the press statement below..
Sadly, on Sunday, February 7, 2016, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State in furtherance of his administration’s one-point agenda, yet again, continued his grossly irresponsible, repugnant and contemptuous, albeit, feckless mission of denigrating and disparaging the person and office of the immediate past governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who is now the minister of transportation.

The ‘story-story’ this time is about another phantom $150,000,000(One Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars) that Amaechi purportedly stole from Rivers State government coffers and siphoned to his party, the All Progressives Congress(APC) within eighteen days, from December 1 to 18 of 2014. Sadly again, Wike picked a church, a sacred temple of God to tell his new imaginary tale, another bogus, fallacious concoction.

This new scurrilous fabrication by Governor Wike is in sync with the one-point agenda of the Wike administration, which is to throw as much mud as possible at former governor Amaechi, hoping that some may at least stick. All sorts of spurious stories about alleged corruption and stealing of state funds against the Amaechi administration, have been bandied in the media with no attempt to substantiate or prove these distorted false claims that completely makes nonsense of common sense.

Even, when Amaechi challenged the Wike administration and its agents to use any constitutionally available legal process or procedure to prove their jaundice, deceitful allegations against him and his administration, they have rather elected to do their own corruption probe, trial and conviction in the media; and now, even inside our solemn places of worship (churches). How callous! Why would a government be so determined to desecrate and destroy every institution, all in the name of playing politics?

It continues to baffle us, like most right-thinking Nigerians that Governor Wike will stand in a church- a solemn place of worship- and carelessly, brusquely tell such a profound lie. He condescendingly descended to falsely and indecorously shout corruption against Amaechi, without providing a single shred of evidence to back his claims. How pathetic!

Pray, Governor Wike, who collected the $150million on behalf of APC? From which State Government account(s) was the $150million taken from? How was the $150million taken and given to APC? Was it by wired transfer from Rivers State government account(s) to APC account(s)?  So many questions, if Wike had attempted to answer, would have made nonsense of his supercilious allegations.

Rivers people and Nigerians are indeed sick and tired of this old worn-out trick of Governor Wike to hoodwink and distract Rivers people from the real issues. Making a new spurious allegation of corruption against Amaechi every day, will not make Rivers people forget that most of the beautiful, working institutions built by the Amaechi administration are now been allowed to rot away in spite of the billions of naira that had accrued to the State and the billions of naira borrowed by Wike. Rivers people want to know why weeds and grasses have taken over the beautiful schools built by Amaechi? Why the standard working health facilities Amaechi built and left behind are now looking desolate and abandoned? Rivers people are concerned and worried that crime and criminals are back and have taken over. No quantum of mudslinging and attempt to disparage the inspiring legacies of the Amaechi years in Rivers State would distract Rivers people from these issues.

Senators vow to stand by Saraki, say calls for his resignation is mischievous

Members of the Senate have vowed to stand by Senate President Bukola Saraki as he goes through his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT. In a statement released through its spokesperson, Abdullahi Sabi, the Senators said they maintain that his trial is a political vendetta and that calls for his resignation is premature, mischievous and unwarranted. The statement reads:

“Following a meeting held in Abuja yesterday (Sunday) by some senators and the wide consultations with our colleagues in which we reviewed last Friday’s decision of the Supreme Court in the appeal on the preliminary matters filed by the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on the charges filed against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), we hereby resolve as follows: That from the beginning of the trial last September, we have declared that this case is not about any fight against corruption. It is simply a case of political vendetta. Our position remains the same. We still believe that the case is politically motivated. We also noted that the decision of the Supreme Court given last Friday was on preliminary matters arising from the commencement of the trial. The trial proper is yet to begin. And since the fundamental principle in our legal system is that a defendant is deemed innocent until proven guilty, we have decided to patiently observe the proceedings until the case runs its full circle in the nation’s final judicial forum. It is on this ground that we want to state categorically that there is no basis for the call on the Senate President to resign until after the matter is decided in that final judicial forum. Such a call at this time is premature, mischievous and unwarranted. We therefore reiterate our support for Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki as the President of the Senate. We stand by him as he goes through the trial at the CCT where we believe he will be able to prove his innocence. We also call on members of the public to ignore the rantings of a few Senators who having failed to get the wish of their sponsors done on the floor of the Senate are now launching media campaign against the leadership of the Senate. We want members of the public to know that the Senate under Dr. Saraki has achieved stability in the legislative institution and we do not need any negative distraction at this point. The focus of the Senate is on the objective consideration and timely passage of the 2016 budget and we will want all Nigerians to support us as we concentrate on this important assignment. We also want to say that we will not make any further statement on this case until the matter has been decided in the final judicial forum.”

Increased electricity tariff : Fashola appeals to Nigerians, says it's a bitter pill we must swallow

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has appealed to Nigerians to accept the new increase in electricity tariff, saying it is a bitter pill we must swallow.

He made the appeal during the second monthly meeting with stakeholders in the power sector in Lagos‎ today February 8th
“Importantly, I understand that people who have been disappointed over a long time will feel a sense of concern that again tariffs have gone up. But the truth is that these tariffs ought to have been there from day one. I don’t know why the government of yesterday was not courageous enough to tell us this was the price. It is a painful pill that I must appeal that we swallow. It is like quinine and malaria. It’s painful; it’s not sweet, I know that, but I do it because we are not left with many choices. This is the first major decision in power that this administration has taken. There are other problems. I can only appeal for some understanding and some trust that we do this in the best interest of our country"he said.

Obasanjo - 'When I was in prison, I had joy'

While speaking at the 50th anniversary of the Bible Society of Nigeria held at the Muson Centre, Onikan, La‎gos, former President Obasanjo said that he had joy and maintained a bubbly ‎ disposition while he served his prison term during the Abacha era. Obasanjo was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995 after he was convicted for his involvement in the plot to overthrow the late Head of State, Gen. Abacha. He was released after Abacha's sudden death in 1998 and became president in 1999.

"When I was in prison, I had joy. I was always bubbly, teaching and preaching to other prisoners. ‎It was because of the joy I had found in God, although it can be said to be abnormal that one is in prison and is happy. I was put in jail, even though I didn’t deserve it.” ‎he said
